Eye Makeup for a Gothic Look

Younger women may sometimes feel the need to be more creative with their eye makeup since they can still get away with it. Parties and big events give you a reason to dress up and put on a different style in makeup.  Many of you may have seen gothic eye makeup pictures on the Internet ad would like to try that out next.  Here is how you can achieve that look easily.

1. Shatter your first impression that Goth only means black.  Many Gothic eye makeup designs are swathed with bright colors like yellow.  You can use black along with brown, plum, emerald and red.

2. Eyeliner in black, brown or white are a must if you want a dramatic look like this.  You can draw a thick line over your eyelid just above the lash line if you want to make your eyes look smaller.  But if you want your peepers bigger, a thin line on the upper and bottom lash lines will work.

3. Liquid eyeliner is better than pencil, try to practice lining your lids a day before the party so that you would not stress over botched eyeliner work on the night itself.

4. Have two colors of mascara ready - one in black and the other one in a more brilliant color like blue.

5. Create a design that you will follow.  You can look at different Gothic eye makeup pictures on the Internet for ideas.  Stay away from really detailed handiwork if you are a novice or not very good with your hands.  Stick with simple designs like swirls and curly-cues.

6. Apply eye makeup primer on your eyelids up to the brow line so that you can brush in makeup more smoothly. Do not use foundation as this would only make your eye shadow cakey as the night goes on.

7. Create smoky eyes with at least three different shades of eye shadow blended well together. Use the same colors as the basic hues for the design you want to put outside the corner of your eye.

8. Afterwards, apply the eyeliner of choice on your upper lash line and extend it past the corner.  A simple yet effective gothic eye makeup design is a bit of wing just outside the corner of your eye. If you are more ambitious, try drawing more complicated designs with a pencil before tracing that with liquid eyeliner.

9. Your design (and even your eye shadow creation) can look better with a bit of pearly finish or shimmer.  Use glitters or bronzers for that.

10. The mascara can make your eye design look just like any other or make it really different. Use black mascara first, making sure that it does not appear clumped and then brush the lash tips with blue or purple mascara.

Always keep in mind though, that you really do need to practice before the big party.  If you are see-sawing between two or three gothic eye makeup pictures that you have seen, you can try a design on the one eye and another on the other eye. This saves time, and precious makeup plus you can really compare your choices.
